West Street Surgery hosted a fantastic Dementia Awareness Day on Monday 24th July, at The Salvation Army. The venue couldn’t have been better. An excellent auditorium with modern audio-visual facilities, and a great kitchen facility to prepare teas and coffees and a light lunch. We have had some great feedback.
- ‘Well organised and informative with plenty of advice and information to tap into, allowing time for Q & As after each speaker. Nice refreshments too!’
- ‘Very informative, its prompted me to contact my Doctors any get a complete check up.’
- ‘A good mixture of speakers. Very interesting and informative. I did not know of many of the organisations. It was good to hear there is so much support available.’
- ‘Wide ranging information on dementia. Informal event. Very friendly and welcoming attitude. Very organized event.’
Opened by the Mayor of Dunstable Councillor Liz Jones the event was jam packed with presentations and information from The Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, Tibbs Dementia Foundation – Our Online Community, Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, Dementia Intensive Support Service, Citizens Advice Dunstable & District, Food First, Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Central Bedfordshire Council, Disability Resource Centre, Dunstable Football Club and the Young@heart Cafe.
West Street Surgery will certainly be working much closer with the organisations listed to further support our patients. Our website has been updated with information and useful contact links for all organisations listed above, and a few more, and can be found at Elderly Care and Dementia | West Street Surgery
Our patients took away a wealth of information about dementia and the clear message that there is a wide range support and services available in Dunstable to support those diagnosed with dementia and their carers. West Street Surgery would like to thank all those that took part; the organisations, volunteers and our patients on making it a fabulous event.
