Cancer screening looks for early signs of cancer in people without symptoms.
Screening save lives by finding cancers at an early stage, or even preventing them. Screening is not the same as the tests a person may have when doctors are diagnosing or treating cancer.
The UK has 3 national screening programmes; Bowel Cancer Screening, Breast Cancer Screening and Cervical Screening. There is also a new NHS Lung Cancer Screening Programme that is slowly being rolled out.
There is currently no NHS screening programme for Prostate Cancer as the PSA Test is not reliable enough, however West Street Surgery can offer the test.
West Street Surgery has been awarded funding from the ICB/UK Cancer Alliance for a new Cancer Early Detection Project which will focus on raising awareness and detection of early stage Pancreatic Cancer.
