We recognise that many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or sometimes questioning), intersex, asexual, and + (LGBTQIA+) people are often reluctant to ask for medical help because of negative experiences they may have had in the past.
All staff at the practice have a good understanding of the issues facing our LGBTQIA+ patients and positively support them in accessing the care they need.
As a reflection of our commitment to LGBTQIA+ patients, West Street Surgery has a LGBT foundation training academy champion and named LGBTQIA+ health worker.
We are also working towards Pride in Practice accreditation. This scheme identifies GP surgeries that are fully committed to ensuring that their LGBTQ patients are treated fairly and are able to discuss their issues openly with their GP or healthcare provider.
